This is a page dedicated to Lhakpa Kanchi Sherpa, a young woman of 29 who grew up in a small Sherpa village called Pangboche in the Khumbu region (Everest region) of Nepal. In November 2011 she woke up suddenly not able to move her legs or lower body and was was flown by helicopter to Kathmandu. Here, she was admitted to the Neuro Hospital, found to have a syringomyclia in her spine, and operated on a month later by the well-known neurosurgeon Dr Devkota. After three months of no difference her condition, she suddenly started to be abe to move her legs and toes just a bit. She went to physical therapy and to a Nepali doctor that gave massage and similar treatments that seemed to help, and life suddenly looked positive again. But another three months later she suddenly reverted to her original condition, not able to move her lower body. She has been back in bed since mid-August, four months. We've met with Dr Devkota, took more MRIs, and found that there is spinal tethering that is pressing against the nerves. Dr Devkoka thinks he might do more harm than good operating. We're looking for a second opinion. Her brother in law, Lhakpa Dorji Sherpa, has loaded the last set of MRI scans onto a Picasa site. The xrays are in jpg format but it's an idea of what we're working with. We'll need some financial help to get her down there for the consultation and anything that might follow. Ang Nuru, Lhakpa Kanchi's husband, has just rented a trekking lodge in Dzongla to try to make ends meet. It's THE best one there, so please support him if you're headed up that say ...
