Kamzang Fund: HARI'S SCHOOL

HARI'S SCHOOL
Hari Tamang is living in Kathmandu and working at Roadhouse Cafe, my home away from home. This is how I came to know him and his story.

Hari wants to build a school in his village. He lives only 85 km from Kathamndu but his village is extremely poor and opportunities scarce. Hari is in university and has big goals. To build a new school in his village, which is cut off from the rest of Nepal during monsoon season by unpassable roads. 20% of the children of his village suffer from malnutrition. You can imagine the rest.

Hari has a vision: a school, teachers, an organic garden, good water, increased opportunity for the children of his village and thus all of the villagers.

Below are some photos of the school today:

Here is the factsheet that Hari has been putting together:

WHY BUILD A NEW SCHOOL?
Poverty. The people of this village are not well educated and they are not participating in any government job or in the trekking industry. Their only form of income is from farming.  38 of the children of this village are undernourished. This is nearly 20% of the population of children. This village is about 85 km Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The people are lacking in awareness and literacy and do not know the importance of education.  Thus they often do not sending their child to school. Those children that are sent to school do not receive a good education. Many parents send their children to school to keep them from disturbing their work in the fields, thus turning the school into a sort of day-care center.

GOAL
Provide the children of Kavre village with a good education and equal opportunity for advancement and good careers in Nepal. We want to provide clean water and organically-grown produce to increase the nutritional value of their diet, and their capacity to learn. Our goal is to build more classrooms and bring in more teachers so that children that now leave Kavre to walk for 1+ hours to another village for a better education can put their time to better use! Our goal is to make a better Nepal.

Please help.
Our goal is to raise $125,000, the predicted basic cost for a new school and teachers saleries for a year ...
